IHHAAC is a federation of civic, citizen, and neighborhood associations, civic activists and interested individuals located throughout Prince George’s Councilmanic Districts 8 and 9. Our members in 2011 come from over 25 civic associations in South County. We provide information and facilitate networking among those concerned about the welfare of Prince Georgians in general and those living in South County in particular, especially those issues related to our quality of life and property values.
IHHAAC is proactive in monitoring and testifying on: proposed state and local legislation; land use planning, including proposed changes to the Master Plan, Sectional Map Amendments, the Transportation Master Plan and the Landscape Manual; and applications before the Planning Board, subdivision review, Zoning Hearing Examiner and Board of License Commissioners (includes control of liquor licenses). Periodic email Action, Crime and Information Alerts and special publications keep our members apprised of important issues/events.
Current issues include: pressing for greater transparency and accountability of County government agencies and operations; urging creation of an independent Office of the Inspector General; urging reforms in the process and content of setting County and M-NCPPC budget priorities; urging reconstruction of MD 210 and Oxon Hill Road; supporting smart, sustainable growth, especially mixed-use developments and expansion of the County’s commercial base around our fifteen Metro stations; opposing degradation of the rural tier and development in inappropriate places; supporting legal challenges to 2009 revisions to the Sub-region V Master Plan and Sectional Map Amendments, including the proposed Accokeek Crossing and Hyde Field retail/commercial complexes; urging improvements to WSSC infrastructure; and pressing for construction and staffing of the long promised District VII Police Station.
Membership in IHHAAC is open to all who share our goal of smart, sustainable growth in South County and pay the prescribed dues. By sharing information and knowledge, we citizens can make better informed choices and decisions. There is strength in numbers. Together it is possible to make a difference. Please join us in our continuing efforts to protect and improve our property values and quality of life in South County.
Annual dues are $25.00 per person or per civic group.
