Savold will explore what to consider when designing a rain garden: cost,
plants, tools, etc.

Don't waste that produce! Canning is a great way to preserve summer's
bounty. This class will cover the appropriate fruits and vegetables for
canning, the canning process, tips and tricks, shelf life, what you need to
get started, great recipes, and even a little history. Samples will be on
hand for a more tactile experience, and you'll leave with a great
informational packet. This workshop will be lead by Sandra Womack, Maryland
Master Gardener and retired Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer
Sciences Educator.

Here's your chance to save money and help the environment! Collecting and
reusing rainwater will save money on your water bill, and decrease the

maintenance, and landscaping. You may register for the workshop even if you
decide not to purchase a barrel. Rain barrels may be purchased for $90.

low maintenance, look no further. This is the perfect solution for the
homeowner that wants a beautiful, stress free garden. Join Esther Mitchell,
Prince George's Master Gardener Coordinator, to learn about how you can have
a blooming garden in the middle of summer, attract birds and butterflies,
and decrease your mowing area!

Founded fifty years ago to protect the view across the Potomac River from
Mount Vernon, the Accokeek Foundation, an educational non-profit, became one
of the nation's first land trusts. Today, the Foundation stewards 200 acres
of Piscataway National Park in Accokeek, Maryland, where visitors can hike a
network of trails winding through wetlands, visit a native tree arboretum,
and observe an award-winning forest restoration project. To emphasize the
connection between nature and history, part of the site includes the
National Colonial Farm, a living history museum that depicts a Maryland
middle-class family farm on the eve of the American Revolution. Nearly
extinct historic crops and animals are preserved here for future
generations. The Foundation's organic Ecosystem Farm emphasizes the future
of agriculture as organic farmers learn the tools of a new trade, practice
sustainable use of natural resources, and shares of the farms produce are
sold to households in the community. The park's beautiful grounds, trails
and programs are open to the public year round.
