[IHHAAC Update] Helen O'Leary

I regret to inform you that Helen O'Leary passed away earlier today. 

Helen, I believe, was the founder of the Indian Head Highway Area Action 
Council.  She was a tireless advocate for the corridor in general and 
the Broad Creek area in particular.  Without her efforts and influences, 
the 210 corridor would have undoubtedly become a far different place 
with much higher densities and inappropriate development.

I ran across her sometime back in the late 80's or early 90's when 
developer Robert Douglas acquired the old ABC Drive-In Theater property 
and attempted to break covenants that Helen and IHHAAC had put in place 
when the property was zoned back in the early 60's.  Reasonable people 
could disagree on her methods, but she had an unwaivering commitment to 
the area and was one of the most dedicated and sharpest people I've ever 
met.

At this writing there is no word on arrangements, but I'll pass them 
along as soon as I know anything.
